Internship Program at the Constitutional Research Institute

The Constitutional Research Institute is offering an internship program for law school students outside South Korea who are interested in the Constitution and constitutional adjudication ofSouth Korea.

The internship program includes various activities from which the participants can learn much on the theory and practice of the South Korean Constitution and constitutional adjudication. The program activities include participation in research projects, auditing various lectures, observing court trials, etc. This internship program will be an excellent opportunity for the participants to broaden their understanding of the Constitution and constitutional adjudication of South Korea.

The internship conditions and application/selection procedures are as follows. We welcome applications from those who are interested in internship opportunities.

Internship Conditions

  • Duration: The CRI internship program lasts for at least four weeks and can be as long as twelve weeks on a full time basis. The starting date, duration, internship days, however, can be reasonably adjusted as long as it does not interfere with their performance.
  • Location: Constitutional Research Institute, Seoul, Korea
  • Compensation: The CRI internships are not paid. Interns are responsible for their own travel costs, travel arrangements(including visas) and living accommodations.
  • Academic Credits: You may get academic credits from your law school for the internship. Check with your school to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Application/Selection Procedures

  • Application Deadlines
    • Summer Opportunities: Summer internships usually take place between June and September. To be considered for a summer internship, applications are accepted from February 1 to April 30 each year.
    • Winter Opportunities: Winter internships usually take place between December and March. To be considered for a winter internship, applications are accepted from September 1 to November 30 each year.
  • Required Documents
    • a cover letter (describing your qualifications, objectives, understanding of the Constitutional Court of Korea and motivation that leads you to apply for our internship program. These are considered as one of the important factors in selecting our interns.)
    • a curriculum vitae or resume with ID photo
    • verification of enrollment
  • All applications must be submitted online (educri@ccourt.go.kr) or via fax(82-2-317-8130), during the application period. Only candidates accepted as an intern will be individually notified of their status by e-mail.
  • Bilingual proficiency (including English) is recommended to hold internship : Korean language fluency is preferred.

With regard to proof of internship completion such as a legal employment affidavit, the Constitutional Research Institute will neither have a researcher attend at a notary's office nor offer notarization. The Institute will instead provide a certificate under the name of the Institute. Before submitting application, please check with respective bar examination authorities whether this certificate may qualify for the intended use.
